The group was created by Mark Hall, head of the youth group at First Baptist Church Downtown Daytona Beach, Florida, USA. Previously the band was playing in a youth group in Atlanta, Georgia.
Discovered by Steven Curtis Chapman, contemporary Christian music legend, the Casting Crowns received a recording contract, and rose to prominence in 2003 with their debut album titled Casting Crowns. The album has quickly become one of the best-selling debut album in the history of Christian music. The second album, Lifesong was released in 2005 and reached the ninth position in the Billboard charts. Both albums have received platinum status. The third work of the band is called The Altar and the Door to debut and reached the second position on the Billboard charts and the first in the Hot Christian Albums of 2007 after the publication in August.
The Casting Crowns have been extremely successful in the United States. Today, they released seven singles that have become a number one after the other in the various Christian music charts. In 2003, Voice of Truth remained for fourteen weeks at the top of the charts, for nine weeks and Lifesong Praise You In The Storm by seven. East to West, the first single from the new album The Altar and the Door reached the top spot after just seven weeks after publication.
